What laminated foam is
Laminated foam is a composite: a facing material bonded to a closed-cell foam base. Bofeng Foam laminates aluminium foil, non-woven fabric, leather, flannelette and PE film onto XPE, IXPE or IXPP, which combines the thermal insulation, cushioning and low weight of the foam with the reflectivity, strength, breathability or finish of the facing layer. Bonding is carried out in-house, so the base foam, the facing, the thickness and the format can all be specified together.
This page is the overview of the laminated range. For the individual products and for ordering, see the laminated foam page.
Facings and what they add
| Facing | Base foam | What it adds |
|---|---|---|
| Aluminium foil | XPE, IXPE or IXPP | Reflects radiant heat, so the composite works as a thermal barrier rather than only as an insulator. |
| Non-woven fabric | XPE or IXPE | Surface strength and a textile finish; the usual choice for automotive and construction trim. |
| Leather | XPE or IXPE | A decorative, wipe-clean finish for interior and consumer products. |
| Flannelette | XPE or IXPE | A soft hand for consumer goods, cases and linings. |
| PE film | XPE or IXPE | A moisture and dust barrier over the foam surface. |
Any facing can be combined with any of the compatible bases, and the base itself is still chosen by expansion ratio in the usual way - see XPE and IXPE for those tables.
Choosing a laminated foam
| What the part has to do | Facing | Base and grade | Why this build |
|---|---|---|---|
| Thermal barrier under a roof, floor or screed | Aluminium foil | XPE 20–30× | The foil reflects radiant heat while the closed-cell base blocks conduction, so the two mechanisms work together. |
| Pipe and duct wrap | Aluminium foil | XPE 15–25× | Flexible enough to wrap a diameter, with conductivity of 0.049–0.065 W/m·K in this band. |
| Automotive interior trim | Non-woven | XPE 15–25× | A textile face that takes adhesive and clips, over a firm enough base to stay flat on a panel. |
| Equipment case and box lining | Flannelette or leather | XPE 20–30× | A soft or wipe-clean face over cushioning, so the contents meet a finished surface. |
| Moisture barrier under a floor | PE film | XPE or IXPE 20–30× | The film closes the surface against damp while the foam supplies the acoustic and thermal layer. |
How we supply laminated foam
- Facings: aluminium foil, non-woven, leather, flannelette, PE film
- Bases: XPE (3–40×), IXPE (3–40×), IXPP (5–25×)
- Heat-bonded multilayer up to 200 mm (IXPP up to 100 mm)
- Die-cutting, CNC routing, adhesive coating with release paper, embossing and printing after bonding
Because lamination happens in-house, a change of facing does not mean a change of supplier. Contact us with the facing, the base and the thickness you have in mind.
