Bofeng Foam manufactures cross-linked polyethylene and polypropylene foam in Zhuhai, China. This page sets out what our foam grades can demonstrate against recognised standards, which management-system certifications the company holds, and — just as importantly — what we do not claim.

Buyers ask for "certifications" as a single item, but the word covers four different things: a material's measured performance in a named test, a substance restriction the material satisfies, a third-party test report on a specific grade, and a management-system certificate held by the factory. Bofeng Foam can support all four, and this page separates them so you can tell which document answers which question.

Standard compliance and certification systems are not the same thing

Most of what matters to a foam buyer is standard compliance: the material was tested to a named method and reached a named class. That is a property of the material, and it is what our data sheets describe.

A certification system is a different kind of evidence. It certifies how an organisation is run rather than how a material performs, and it is issued by an accredited body after an audit. The two are complementary: a supplier-approval pack normally needs the management-system certificate, while the engineer specifying the part needs the material test report.

Management-system certifications we hold

Bofeng Foam holds the following certifications:

CertificationWhat it covers
ISO 9001Quality management system
ISO 14001Environmental management system

Tell us which certificate your supplier-approval process requires, and the document format your system accepts, and we will provide the current issue. If your audit uses a self-assessment questionnaire, send it with your enquiry and we will complete it.

Flammability standards our grades meet

Our flame-retardant grades are made by compounding the retardant into the polymer before cross-linking, so the fire performance belongs to the whole sheet rather than to a coating. The following are statements of standard compliance for the material grade:

StandardWhat it isOur position
GB 8410 A0Chinese automotive interior material flammability test; A0 is the most demanding gradeMeets the requirements of GB 8410 A0
UL94 V2Vertical burn classification for plasticsMeets the requirements of UL94 V2
Limiting oxygen index 27Measured oxygen concentration at which the material sustains burningLOI of 27 — a useful margin above the ambient threshold
UL94 HF-1UL94 classification for cellular foam materialsUL94 HF-1 grades available
GB8624-B1Chinese building-material reaction-to-fire classificationGB8624-B1 grades available

One point about UL94 is often misread: a classification describes the material, not your finished part. A die-cut insert with an adhesive coating and a foil facing is a different construction from the sheet that was tested, and it may need to be re-tested in that form. We raise this because it is the most common misunderstanding we see in enquiries.

UL94 V2 is the flame-retardant classification we supply. It is the classification we write into specifications, and the one we will confirm against the clause your project references.

Substance compliance: RoHS and REACH

Our cross-linked foam materials can be supplied to support compliance with the EU RoHS directive and the REACH regulation. "Support compliance with" is the accurate phrasing: the material is formulated without the restricted substances, and the declaration you need is issued against your order and your market's current rules rather than as a blanket statement about every grade we make.

If you need a specific declaration — a full materials declaration, a REACH SVHC statement, or a declaration against a customer-specific restricted-substance list — send us the list with your enquiry and we will confirm what we can provide.

Third-party testing and reports

Independent test reports are available for our flame-retardant materials, including reports issued by SGS. These cover the material as supplied, and they are usually the first document a quality department asks for.

Because a report is tied to a grade and a test method, we ask for two things before issuing one: the standard and clause your project references, and the grade and thickness you are specifying. With those we can tell you which existing report applies and which would need to be arranged.

What we do not claim

This list is deliberate. A compliance page that only lists positives is of little use to a buyer who has to defend a specification internally.

  • Our flame-retardant classification is UL94 V2. We state the classification we supply and confirm it against your specification rather than implying a broader rating.
  • We do not claim medical-device certification or biocompatibility testing. We do not manufacture or certify finished medical devices. Biocompatibility testing and regulatory clearance apply to the finished device and are the responsibility of the device manufacturer; we supply the foam material and its specification.
  • We do not claim food-contact approval as an organisation. Our PE foam can be supplied to the food-contact rules your market applies, and the approval that matters is the one granted to the finished article.
  • We do not claim conformity to a standard we have not named. Where a requirement is set by your project rather than by a published standard, we will confirm what the grade can demonstrate against your clause instead of asserting general compliance.
  • A management-system certificate is not a product approval. ISO 9001 and ISO 14001 describe how we operate; they do not certify that a particular foam grade meets a particular clause. For that, use the test report.

How to verify any of this before you order

Send us the standard, the clause and the test method your project references, together with the grade and thickness you intend to specify. We will reply with what the material can demonstrate against it, which report applies, and — where something cannot be met — that answer as well.

Samples and specification sheets are available before production, so the material can be assessed against your requirement before a purchase order is placed.

Send us your specification and we will confirm what our grades can demonstrate →

Certifications and compliance FAQ

Which certifications does Bofeng Foam hold?

Bofeng Foam holds ISO 9001 (quality management) and ISO 14001 (environmental management). Certificates are provided on request — tell us which one your supplier-approval process requires.

What does UL94 V2 mean for my part?

It means the foam material, tested to the UL94 vertical burn method, self-extinguishes within the time and drip limits set for the V2 classification. It classifies the material, not your finished assembly — a faced, coated or laminated part is a different construction and may need its own test.

Do you provide RoHS and REACH declarations?

Our materials can be supplied to support compliance with RoHS and REACH, and declarations are issued against your order and your market's current requirements. Send the declaration format your quality department needs with your enquiry.

Are SGS test reports available?

Yes. Independent reports, including reports issued by SGS, are available for our flame-retardant materials. Tell us the standard and the grade you are specifying and we will identify which report applies.

Can you supply a UL94 HF-1 or GB8624-B1 grade?

Yes. UL94 HF-1 and GB8624-B1 flame-retardant grades are available. Confirm the thickness and density with our engineers, because a classification is demonstrated on a specific construction.

What if my project references a standard you have not listed?

Send us the clause and the test method. We will confirm what our grade can demonstrate against it — and if the answer is that it cannot be met, we will tell you that rather than leave it open.
