IXPP foam is irradiation cross-linked polypropylene foam. Polypropylene sheet is passed under an electron beam, which cross-links the polymer and lets it be expanded into a closed-cell foam. Because the base polymer is polypropylene rather than polyethylene, IXPP keeps its shape at temperatures where XPE and IXPE would soften, and it insulates better: its thermal conductivity is lower than that of polyethylene foam.
Physical properties by expansion ratio
The table below covers the ratio grades for which the factory publishes data (7x to 25x); the 5x grade and grades not listed can be confirmed on request.
Ratio | Density (kg/m³) | Tensile strength MD/TD (MPa) | Elongation at break MD/TD (%) | Compressive strength TD (kPa, 25% deflection) | Dimensional change MD/TD (%) 70±2 °C, 22 h |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
7x | 140±20 | >2.4 / >1.9 | >300 / >250 | >270 | <1.5 / <1.0 |
10x | 100±15 | >2.0 / >1.4 | >300 / >250 | >200 | <1.9 / <1.2 |
15x | 66±7 | >1.5 / >0.9 | >250 / >250 | >100 | <1.9 / <1.2 |
20x | 50±5 | >1.0 / >0.6 | >250 / >250 | >60 | <2.5 / <1.5 |
25x | 40±5 | >0.6 / >0.5 | >200 / >200 | >50 | <2.7 / <1.9 |
Test standards: density GB/T 6343 · tensile strength and elongation GB/T 6344 · compressive strength and dimensional change JIS-K6767 (1999). MD is the machine direction and TD the transverse direction; compressive strength is reported for the transverse direction at 25% deflection, and no longitudinal figure is published.
Features
- Temperature resistance. IXPP keeps its physical properties across a wide temperature band — flexible when cold, and dimensionally stable when hot.
- Sound and heat insulation. The closed-cell structure blocks both sound and heat transfer, which makes the sheet a straightforward insulation material.
- Light but strong. Density is low, yet the foam carries a defined compressive load without collapsing.
- Tough and thermoformable. Tensile strength and impact resistance are high for the density, and the sheet takes heat forming, so it can be moulded rather than only cut.
- Water-resistant. The closed cells leave water no path into the material, so it resists moisture as well.
- Easy to shape. It can be cut to different shapes and sizes with simple tooling.
Applications
- Automotive
- Interior parts such as instrument panels and door panels, where it absorbs shock and cuts noise; also seat padding.
- Engine-compartment insulation, where the higher service temperature is what decides the material.
- Building and decoration
- Wall insulation that lowers a building’s energy consumption.
- Underlay beneath flooring, for cushioning and to reduce footfall noise.
- Wall panels and cladding, where the smooth surface takes embossing and printing.
- Packaging and transport
- Cushioning for fragile goods on long routes.
- Lining for electronics and precision instruments, to stop vibration damage.
- Insulation in household appliances, where heat has to be kept in or out.
- Other uses
- Sports equipment such as yoga mats and equipment sheaths.
- Consumer goods such as children’s toys and home furnishings.
- Medical equipment packaging and surgical mattresses.
Why Choose Bofeng Foam as Your IXPP Foam Manufacturer?
Bofeng Foam is a direct factory manufacturer of IXPP foam in Zhuhai, China, with more than 10 years of foam-industry experience and in-house irradiation cross-linking technology. We supply IXPP sheets and custom parts with strict quality control.
- In-house R&D of flame-retardant, high-temperature, permanent anti-static, conductive and open-cell foam series.
- Custom thickness, width and colour, plus die-cutting for gaskets and insulation parts.
- OEM / ODM service for automotive and industrial applications.
Custom and bespoke IXPP foam
IXPP is usually specified where a PE foam would soften: battery-pack spacers, engine-compartment parts, high-temperature gaskets and building components. We die-cut, CNC-route, laminate and thermoform it to a drawing — and we will tell you when a different material would do the job at lower cost.
Industrial and OEM supply
Five production lines in Zhuhai run 5,000 tonnes a year out of a 10,000 m² plant, with conversion in the same building, so a specification can be held across repeat orders. We are a factory, not a trading company.
How to qualify Bofeng Foam as a supplier
Ask for a sample, the specification sheet for the grade you are considering, and any existing test report. We hold ISO 9001 and ISO 14001. If your market requires a particular standard, tell us the standard and the destination market and we will confirm what documentation can accompany the shipment.
Ordering: MOQ, lead time and samples

IXPP Foam FAQ
What is IXPP foam used for?
IXPP foam is chosen where higher temperature resistance is needed: automotive interior and engine-compartment insulation, building insulation, high-temperature packaging and gaskets.
What temperature can IXPP foam withstand?
Because IXPP is based on polypropylene and is irradiation cross-linked, it resists higher temperatures than XPE or IXPE. Continuous service temperature depends on the grade — confirm the limit for the grade you intend to use with our engineers.
How does IXPP foam compare to XPE and IXPE?
All three are closed-cell, cross-linked foams. XPE is chemically cross-linked PE, IXPE is irradiation cross-linked PE, and IXPP is irradiation cross-linked polypropylene with the best temperature resistance of the three. IXPP is the right choice when the extra heat resistance justifies the higher cost.
Is IXPP foam water-resistant?
Yes. Its closed-cell structure blocks water and moisture, so the sheet can be used in humid environments.
Can you customize the colour of IXPP foam?
Yes. Skin tone (natural), black and custom colours are available.
What is your MOQ?
For standard IXPP rolls and sheets the minimum order is 1,000 m². Custom thicknesses, colours and die-cut parts are quoted individually.
What are your lead times and how is pricing calculated?
Standard lead time is 15–20 days from order confirmation. Price depends on the foam specification and the order volume, so we quote per project rather than publish a fixed figure. Send the material, thickness, density, sheet size and quantity you need, and our engineers will confirm both.
