A foam insert is the part of the pack that holds the product. Bofeng Foam die-cuts and CNC-routes XPE, IXPE and IXPP inserts to a product outline.

1. XPE Foam Inserts

Material properties

  • Closed-cell structure with uniform density.
  • Good compression recovery under repeated loading.
  • Water-resistant, moisture-resistant and resistant to most chemicals.

Where it fits

  • Consumer electronics: frame padding for smartphones and tablets.
  • Industrial equipment: die-cut inserts for precision instruments and mechanical components.
  • Cold chain: the thermal layer for insulated containers.

Why specify it

  • Die-cutting takes complex internal geometry, so the cushioning follows the product outline.

2. IXPE Foam Inner Lining

Material properties

  • Electron-beam cross-linking gives a finer, more uniform cell structure than XPE.
  • Can be made permanently anti-static.
  • Higher resilience under repeated compression.

Where it fits

  • Medical devices: packaging for surgical instruments and diagnostic equipment.
  • Premium electronics: anti-static inserts for semiconductor components and precision circuit boards.
  • Food equipment: linings that can be wiped clean between uses.

Why specify it

  • Anti-static performance is built into the material rather than coated on, so it does not wear off.

3. IXPP Foam Inserts

Material properties

  • Higher rigidity than the polyethylene foams, so it carries load as well as absorbing it.
  • Better heat resistance — up to 140 °C maximum service temperature.
  • Light for its strength, with good ageing resistance.

Where it fits

  • Automotive components: structural padding for engine parts and electronic control units.
  • Heavy equipment: support frames for industrial tools and large instruments.
  • Returnable packaging: durable linings for logistics containers.

Why specify it

  • It suits composite inserts that have to hold a shape under load, and being reusable it cuts packaging cost over a return loop.

Application examples

  • Consumer electronics: ultra-thin IXPE shock-absorbing inserts for smart wearables.
  • Medical devices: custom XPE composite inserts for surgical robot accessories.
  • Industrial manufacturing: IXPP structural transport inserts for automotive components.
