A roof takes the worst of the weather and the most direct solar gain of any surface on a building. In summer that gain drives the indoor temperature up; in winter the same roof is where heat escapes fastest. Foil-faced XPE roof insulation foam is laid under the roof covering to cut both, without adding the weight that a mineral board would.
